Number 6. Telephone charges from your hotel room can be extortionate. To avoid this huge over charging only use the phone in your room to call room service. If, you need to make a call, especially internationally, use your cellphone or a pay phone or consider emailing while your vacationing.

Number 7. Extra fee for checking in early, yes you read that right, many hotels do charge for you arriving early, so be sure to check what time you can arrive without getting this surcharge. If, you do arrive early to your hotel and they charge for arriving early ask them if you can at least leave you luggage with them, so you can check out some sights. Most hotels will oblige and keep your luggage safe.

Number 8. Wi-Fi fee. Usually you will find hotels where the wi-fi is free, however those that aren’t can charge as much as $20 per day for the service. To avoid this charge ask if the hotel has a loyalty program which usually gives you free service, including wi-fi. There is usually some way to get free wi-fi, but you have to investigate a little, ask other tourists that have laptops.

Number 9. Insects, bugs or other pests in your room are not uncommon. Obviously you cannot avoid this, but you can usually get something done about it. Complain to the hotel manager, and this usually leads to a room change and sometimes even an upgrade as they do not want any bad publicity at such a busy time.

Number 10. More often than not there will always be a bar in the hotel, party goers can start to get loud late into the evening which leads to many complaints. Be sure to check where your room is during the day in relation to the bar location. If your room is close, or above the bar you are well within your rights to ask for a room change to a farther away location in the hotel.

Many of the problems arise in hotels are generally over charging. Hotels make around $1 billion per year just in fees, so be sure to get all the charges, fees and totals upfront. Don’t be afraid to ask about any concerns, it’s your right, and following some of these tips should help you be aware of possible problems.
